New major project launched

18 January, 2007 (17:05) | General, Jokkmokk, Projects, Webdesign | By: Andreas

The scheduled meeting today was a success! I visited the Sony BMG headquarters here in Stockholm and met some really interesting people who I will work with in a new and exciting project. Since Sony BMG is a record label, this project is obviously also related to music, and that makes it even more exciting! I won't write anything more than that now, but it will be a hot topic in future posts since it will take up a lot of time and be given lots of attention on this site.

Getting a chance to work on projects like the mentioned one and on the fabulous Tjuvlyssnat.se will be really fun. And it will result in several more trips to Stockholm this year, no doubt about that. Good thing I'm getting used to the city tempo, Stockholm is extremely different from small and slow Jokkmokk…

A beautiful place

I posted this image on the local Jokkmokk blog yesterday, and got an e-mail today asking about the background story of the image. Here it is:

Nautijaur, Jokkmokk - Winter and summer

The photos are taken in Nautijaur, a small village not very far from Jokkmokk. One photo is taken during the easter holiday 2004, the other in the end of July 2005. Johannas father owns a small house in the village, where we spend a couple of weekends every year. It is always relaxing and calm, and since there is no internet access, no phone, no traffic and no noise, it is possible to completely disconnect from the regular everyday life and just live…

The village is covered in snow during the winter and spring, making it perfect for snowmobile adventures. In the summer, Nautijaur is a paradise in green with huge flower-covered fields surrounded by the forest and a sea. And in the fall it is possible to find both cloudberries and the rare and delicious arctic raspberriy in the area.

If I ever launch an online photo gallery, there will be lots of photos from Nautijaur in it…

Launching a contest

15 November, 2006 (14:25) | Jokkmokk | By: Andreas

A couple of months ago I was asked to build a website for a local event, a movie festival that will take place in Jokkmokk in May next year. ITUS, the company I work for had also been requested to support the project in some way, and we decided to sponsor the the event with a complete custom-designed website (normal sales value: US$3.000). We started building the site and made it almost complete but when it was time to launch it we still hadn't got any domain or hosting information. And when I asked the project leader about this, she had changed her mind about the site and did not want our contribution any more.

So we built a functional and nice blog site with a custom design, and now we don't know what to do with it. We still want it to be used in some way, and we are still ready to give it away for free if it is used for some good purpose. In an effort to get the site online, we are now opening a contest where we ask people to send in suggestions on what to do! The best suggestion will win the site, complete with one year of hosting and free advertising on Jokkmokk.biz (note: Swedish language). If you want to participage, send an e-mail with your suggestions to me or to Karl-Johan. Please remember to include atleast one suggested domain name.

We will post more information about the contest on Jokkmokk.biz in the next couple of days…

Thanks a million

I asked for feedback, and I did get feedback. Much more than expected. Thanks everyone! I appreciate your support and your comments, and I will consider every opinion and suggestion for the future of this site. And feedback is of course welcome at anytime, not just now…

I have got a few surprises with the feedback. One of those surprises was that a business blogging expert made an estimated value of my blog, based on what could happen if I would "make use of the full potential of the domain". Other than the funny blog value tool that I have written about earlier (which now claim that my blog is worth 10 million dollars) I haven't cared about commercial value since it is simply not very relevant for a personal site. But it was still interesting to learn more about the topic, and as always wild numbers give a boost to the inspiration. And in the same e-mail, I was told that my site now had a PageRank rating of 8, which was also a surprise to me.

Another surprise was the interest for the blog. I have never taken it very seriously, but since many of you say that you return mostly to read the blog I feel that I should do something better of it. I'm making up a plan about it right now but it will not be anything special, just a refreshment. I will not step into the echo chamber or start repeating the trendy links of the day and I will also not push my opinions and views on any special topics unless it is something that I find really interesting or important. But I will write more about how I work, how I live and what I do. I will try to give some education and inspiration through simple tutorials and some theory. But don't expect too much, it will not be any dramatic change.

By the way, winter is coming in quickly here. For a few days during last week, the ground was covered by a few centimeters of snow. Yes, snow - in the end of September. However, it melted, and now it looks like a regular fall again. Hopefully the snow will stay away for atleast a few more weeks, the winter will be long enough anyway…

Jokkmokk dot biz

Jokkmokk.biz goes online

Yesterday morning I launched Jokkmokk.biz, the website of the company I work for - a local computer store and web production company named ITUS in Jokkmokk, northern Sweden. The website is built with WordPress and a custom-designed theme, and it is intended to be both a company business site and a simple online magazine with daily news from our local area. The language is Swedish, but we will soon launch a site section in English for the international content. As you may have guessed, you will find both free website templates and themes for WordPress on that site soon. The designs will be coded by me, but released under the name of the company. More about that in the next couple of posts…

Feel free to check out the site, and please let me know what you think of the design so far!
