Just Google me!

10 June, 2006 (06:03) | General, Site news, Webdesign | By: Andreas

I'm back again after a couple of calm and very nice days away from my website. And I'm back to another round of strange AdSense experiences, since I can not access my account any more and no ads show up on my site. I have no idea what has happened, since I haven't got any e-mail from Google or seen any strange things happen with the numbers since my account was reinstated. I know for sure that I haven't clicked my own links. In fact, I haven't clicked any AdSense links at all. And the statistics looked completely normal. So what is it this time? We'll see… I'm just happy to know that I have not done anything wrong this time, so I don't need to worry about losing the account for good this time.

And something else Google-related: I made my regular monthly keyword check to see where in the results my site shows up. And I'm happy to see that a search for the name "andreas" showed my site as #1 on Google.com! That is just great. And a bit cool as well, in some way. I would normally not admit that, but I'm taking that extra freedom today just for the fun of it!

I have a number of website updates that need to be made, since I've promised new designs among other things. I'll try to have atleast the two new templates released before the weekend is over, but since I'm working on the new Jokkmokk.biz site I won't have very much spare time. I also have 800+ unanswered e-mails to deal with, so the extra energy I got from the mini-vacation will probably not last very long.

But the summer is here now. I wish you could all experience the amazing feeling of having perfect daylight 24 hours per day. Taking a walk in the sunshine at midnight it just wonderful…

Andreas, relax. Humans need vacation time away from their web sites. And, if you really are that generous as to answer all of your email, then you should maybe start advising your readers to take vacations, themselves! ;-)

You have a great site, here. Good luck sifting through all that mail!

Sorry, dude, but from here it looks like you're number 2. Still, thats pretty good when the number 1 is probobly the most popular console game ever (GTA San Andreas)

We laughted a lot and listened to a lot of music, including yours… Undescriptible! For all the people I know and I, this is a beautiful day, today too.

Benny. In England the temperature was over 30 on Saturday, with the promise of thesame for the next few days.

Back to business.

I think it is relatively easy to get in the top few - it mainly depends on the site name, but also the number of your posts to popular forums and the number of sites that link back to you.

I have just tried my domain name gbtamc and it's number 1, similarly with my church domain ansteymethodist. However trying either my surname (250 milliaon results) or christian name (669 thousand results) - and I can't even find myself !

If you manage to get a domain that is unusual or unique then top listing is bound to happen.

Even so Andreas's site is extremely good (I have links to it on my site and on my WebLog), and I have a quick look at his RSS feed every day, and most days view the site. Keep up the good work, Andreas, but still find time to relax.

40 Celsius here in México, hope my summers were at 27, and talking about the ranking in google, the results in a google search change for every user, google keeps a record about your past searches and your internets visitis and show results based in that info.

#1 or #2 doesn't really matter. The different results probably come from the fact that Google is not always in sync. I tested on several different computers to make sure that my search was not affected by any local cache. It was just cool to see my site first with millions of sites after me. I am no search engine expert, but I've worked hard for that moment. ;)

I was tricked into doing the same thing with my AdSense account. How did you get a chance to explain yourself? I've written them emails, and have yet to get a reply.

Tom: I followed the instructions and sent an official appeal. Most people who do that doesn't get any reply. But I did.

Now, it doesn't matter much because Google has been kind enough to kick me out again (just before the payout - what a perfect timing!) and this time I have not got any e-mail of any kind. No explaination. Nothing.

I know for sure that I have not clicked any of my own links, and I have not seen any strange clicking behaviour from anyone else. I have requested an explaination, but not got any reply so I will very soon give up on AdSense. They did let me in, and they allowed me to run ads for a few weeks. But now with my earnings had grown even higher - they locked me out again. If I don't get a reply to my e-mail very soon, I'll post my opinions on this in the blog. Again. And then just find a more reliable advertisment solution.

I was 'going' to use the Andreas09 1.5 theme at Wordpress, because it looked very sleek and had nice features. But I was very dissapointed to find that every category I clicked on would have this big ugly header "Archive of ….such and such" Most other layouts use the user defined title, or no title at all when the page comes up, just the postings will be there. It just looks tacky to have a (non-archive) page titled that way. I thought it was worth mentioning to you, because other than that, yours was definitely my favorite, but now I have to use someone elses.

Lisa: Thanks for the feedback! The WordPress port was not made by me, it is the work of Ainslie Johnson (with some modifications made by the WordPress.com team). I can not in any way edit the theme at WordPress.com, but if you ever decide to host your own WordPress blog I can tell you that it would be easy to modify the "archive of" headers into something better if you would use Ainslie's WP-Andreas09 version 2.0 (which is in many ways better than the WP.com version). I suggest that you send the same Feedback through the WordPress.com crew, and let them know what text you would rather want to see. With some luck, they may listen and modify the theme into something better!
