Remember SiteScore?

26 March, 2006 (21:35) | General | By: Andreas

I just checked back to see what happens on the Silktide SiteScore top-10, and it was well worth the visit. I am still on #2, right after my friends at MODxCMS.com. This feels really good, especially since a few of the top-ranked sites send their visitors to place lots of low point votes for the visitor rating of the other top-ranked sites. It is so obvious that it becomes fun to watch! But I still hang on to my place, even though my visitor rating goes down every day…

And I got two nice surprises on the chart today. First of all, Ainslie's site is among the top sites! I've had a few discussions with him on how to improve the overall quality of his website, and after that he made a number of changes to the site - and reached as high as #7 on the rank before the (expected) low-point visitor vote spam sent him out of the top-10. He is currently on #11, which is still amazingly good! I also discovered that the site currently ranked as #4, htmlblock.co.uk, is based on one of my templates (andreas08). All credits are removed and there are of course lots of images and colors added, but you can still see the template design under it all. For some strange reason, HTMLblock has not been spammed with these low-point votes yet. Lucky them!

Conclusion: I have been involved in four of the top-11 sites in some way. What's next?

Glad to see you getting back to the top and thanks for your help.

Those dirty scoundrels have been voting me down! I actually got to #6 for a very short while before the negative votes started coming. I didn't realise the voting would be so tactical.

It was good to be in the top 10 for a while and I'm happy with a score of 9.6 :-)

Hi,

Yes your right! Im starting to be spammed now im in the top 10 sites. Let's see what happens.

About the template. I got your template from http://www.oswd.com as I said in another post I made a while back on your site. But hey, I've given you credit both on http://www.oswd.com and I have linked to you in my partners page.

I'm going to play with the tamplate soon. The CSS code mainly. All I have done really is kept the layout and changed the rest. I have also written the code all in PHP and there's alot of work behide all what you see, like my members area etc…

And Im soon going to make a free download for a PHP members area (same found on my site) for people wishing to have a powerful members area on their site without payment for the script. The members area took me 2 weeks to build and works great and uses on database! and easy to use and setup.

Im also working on a free image watermark system which you will see in the next couple of weeks.

It's a great template to work with for a starting point and would recommend others to use it.

Can't sitescore do something about that negative spam or don't they care?

I think they do to a certain extent. I have noticed that a negative vote seems to have less effect that a positive vote.

I've already contacted Silktide about the spam issue but little to nothing has been done about it.

Being one of the only sites in the top ten with an Alexa ranking over 100,000, my site keeps dancing erratically between #3 and #7 because of these spammers.

At first, I was annoyed, but I'm now finding it quite humorous. Reminds me of a quote… "Life is like a box of chocolates…" :-D

Congrats on being involved in so many of the top 10 Andreas! Your work is excellent. I've been a fan for a while now. You almost had one more! I came about an inch shy of using one of your designs for MyWebResource, but decided to go orignal instead.

That I considered using your template is a huge complement considering we are in the same business. ;-)

Keep up the great work!

James

I find it amusing that silktide.com isn't on the top ten. . maybe just me.

Anyway, congrats Andreas!
