Switching host

I like my current host. They are cheap, have a great reputation and are very solid. But there are a few annoying limitations that has made me look for other alternatives. My current storage/traffic limit causes problems for me, and some of the content (like the music) is currently hosted on another server to keep me from breaking my traffic limit. I have even avoided posting my photo gallery here since it would eat up the server space I have.

But that problem will soon be eliminated! I will very soon switch to another host which has a lot better features, and that is thanks to all the donations (both big and small) that you guys have sent! Thanks a lot, I really appreciate your support. As I have promised, all donations are used to improve this website in different ways. I am currently only missing a few dollars on my PayPal account to afford the new hosting plan, but once I have enough money I will make the switch.

I have been offered free (sponsored) hosting several times, but sticked to the one I have since I have paid in advance to use this one for a whole year. But that year has soon passed, so it is time for the upgrade now. In theory, I would welcome sponsored hosting right now if anyone would be interested in getting a "Hosting sponsored by: (name)" link at the footer of this site. But in practice, the hosting is already sponsored by all of you visitors. I find that amazing…

I'm looking forward to add new material, perhaps Lagoona live music videos or other fun stuff. With the new host it will be perfectly possible. Suggestions and requests are very welcome!

Edit: Thanks to a generous donation from Caroline, I will be able to place the order for a two year plan today! Many thanks to Caroline and everyone for your support! Now I'm extremely motivated to add lots of new material to the site. I will hopefully be able to make the switch tonight, but if this site goes down for some time within the next two days, it is only because of the database move. And I should also mention that I've sent out the first beta version of my new modular concept template to the testers. I hope to release it within a week!

Hey andreas, big fan. I wouldnt care to host your site at all. It would be an honor in fact, i dont even care if you say its sponsered by me. How much space do you need, 2 or 3 gigs? let me know if I can help.

I sent you an email with an offer for free web hosting. As I said in the email we pay for a tremendous amount of bandwidth on our dedicated server. We should have more then you actually need. Just drop me a line with your space and bandwidth requirements.

Thanks a lot for the offer jim! But I'm not switching just for the space, I have a good friend who has helped me with that. I've been looking for a complete solution with fast servers, good features and good customer support, and I have found my dream host already! It will give me 12 gigabytes of space, 500 gigabytes of monthly traffic and free (and instant) domain/database/files transfer from my current host.

I figure that I will use around 3 gigs of space and probably 100-150 gigabytes of traffic per month from start, so I still have room for additions in the future. As for sponsoring, I'm currently only a few dollars short of having enough money to pay for one year in advance (which is actually just $60) so it is just a matter of days until I place my order and move the site. With "sponsored hosting" I actually thought about buying two years at once, and maybe add the whole set of top level domains (andreasviklund.net, .org and so on). But again, thanks for your support, I appreciate it a lot!

Thanks for the reply back and good luck with your new host. Your numbers are about what I thought they would be. So just drop me a line if need to if the future. We thought we found the dream host many times before also. Before we found on that delivered.

Keith: To me (currently limited to 200mb space and 15 gb traffic) the numbers seem to good to be true. But I'm ready to give it a try, since the recommendation came from people I trust. But if it won't work out, I will desperately ask you for help. Thanks for your support! =)

I think before you settle into a long term deal with any provider you should at least test them out for a couple of months to check there reliability for yourself. The last thing you want to do is commit yourself to a long term deal that ends up not being a good deal for you. We will be around, 3 gig space and 100gb traffic is easily obtainable on our server. I look forward to you new design.
