WordPress 2.0 installed!

WordPress 2.0 was released a few hours ago, and I decided to upgrade directly. To my surprise, I was easy and painless. I was afraid that I would need some massive re-coding of my custom theme and my plugins to make it work well, but I was wrong. The upgrade was finished in ten minutes, of which this site was offline for only 2 minutes while I deleted the old WP files and uploaded the new version. I will need to rebuild my theme anyway, since most of it is hardcoded and not very user-friendly right now. Besides, it is pretty boring… But there is no rush to do that yet, so don't expect any changes here yet in a while (unless some crazy bug appears in the next couple of days).

You are something else!!!

Maybe you have nothing to do over the cold winter months, but your grey matter is certainly not frozen over!

You are definitely one of the CSS "must see" sites.

But … excuse my ignorance - what is Wordpress????

Keep up with what you are doing. I don't know what it is at the moment, but I'm SURE it is fantastic!!

David: Thanks a lot! WordPress is a popular blog engine script (or a "Content Management System", or a "Publishing Platform" depending on how cool you want it to be). It makes publishing of blog/news content and serving of regular pages really easy, since you update the page through an online administration area instead of through HTML editors and FTP software. Take a look at [wordpress.org->http://wordpress.org or [wordpress.com->http://wordpress.com to find out more.

P4k3: There are many differences, but most are not visible to the user. For this site, I could have kept 1.5.2 without missing any of the new features. But I will use WordPress in other projects where the new features will be useful (like the "roles and capabilities" system that replaces the "users" system) so I want to get used to it. And of course I was curious… =) So for me it was worth it. Especially since I got through the upgrade without killing any data.

Yes, it's definitely worth the upgrade - especially if you are interested in theme/plugin development.

The admin backend has changed significantly with plenty of AJAX goodness to ease the administration process (finally category addition on the posting page - as well as others).

The biggest difference is "under the hood" with a ton of new hooks and filters for theme and plugin authors.

The Wordpress 2.0 Themes and Plugins you will see released in the future are going to be exponentially more powerful than anything 1.5 could have run "out of the box."

I definitely recommend upgrading - it's a polished piece of software and I have heard of no issues with the upgrade to date.

What, The 2.0 is here..

I arrived here from OSWD.org looking for something new to jazz up my personal web with (I found andreas07) and now I see that WP has gone 2.0

New Years are going to be all about updating.

Yeah.. I upgraded as well. Worked pretty well — I like the new features, and the admin interface is better I guess.

I really liked the Akisment pluign that came with it… its completely zapped all the blogspam I was getting :)
