Ryzom community action
Ryzom, an innovative online game that has several years of history, is threatened since the software company behind it is in financial problems. In an effort to save the game, a part of the Ryzom community has launched a campaign where the target is to gather donations to buy the game and then turn Ryzom into a free, community-controlled game project. It has been done before, when the 3D modeling package Blender was purchased by a large number of users, and the community will do everything they can to make it happen again.
I found out about this since the campaign website was built with one of my templates (andreas00), but that is not why I post this entry. This is an example of a real community problem, with extremely valid reasons, and how a community can work together to change things for the better. Or even save a project from crashing completely. No matter if you know the game or not, I recommend you to visit the campaign site and help spreading the word.
