MP3 Grammy Awards
Tonight I browsed through my many folders of unfinished songs from the past, and I found a lot of stuff that I would want to finish. There are old Lagoona productions, some FastTracker 2 modules and even a few classic piano songs. I have about 250 songs in the "unfinished archive", but to be honest I don't think I will be able to finish more than a few of them (if any). But there are a few treasures, so who knows… I still have plans for a new album release, although it is a low priority at the time.
To my surprise, I also found a completed song that I had missed when I built my free music archive: The original version of my own song "Avalanche". The version that has been available on my own song page has been a shortened radio edit (03:45 minutes) from the original version which is a lot longer (06:37 minutes). But now I have added the original version as well. You can also grab it directly from here:

While I like long tracks, the original version is repetetive to an annoying level which is why I made the shorter version. Despite this, the original mix got nominated for the 2001 MP3 Grammy Awards, which were hosted by Dmusic.com. This was several years before the commercial music industry accepted the MP3 format, so the awards were unofficial and didn't have the same status as they have today. But it was still a big thing in the legal MP3 music scene at the time, and I was really proud of the nomination. I didn't win, but got a good 2nd place with 29% of the public votes!
The song was made in FastTracker 2, with no external synthesizers or effects. I have the original XM version here too, so if anyone would be interested in making an oldschool remix just let me know and I'll send the original file to you. I would also be interested in serious remixes of the song, so if any of you unsigned trance producer talents like the melody then contact me. I still have lots of label contacts who ask me for good material on regular basis so don't be shy!

DJ_Xander: No, the XM format is not in any way compatible with any Cakewalk version that I know of. XM doesn't contain any MIDI data, although I remember that somepeople used an XM to MIDI converter back in the days to extract the basic melodies.
There are newer software (like Renoise and Madtracker) that allows you to edit the original XM file and extract the melodies in .WAV format which you can use to make a loop-based remix. But I would prefer remixes which doesn't contain any sounds from the original. Listen to the different remixes of "Into my dream" on the Lagoona music page to get a few ideas of what my contacts ask for!

Hej! That's a good challenge for me…
Is XM compatible with cakewalk HS? I will not try to contribute in a masterpiece, I'm gonna DO IT! If you think I'm able to, you can send me an email and I will be at work… playing and having fun… =)
Thanks a lot!!!
