We called it "Dreams"

3 July, 2007 (22:49) | Music | By: Andreas

Andreas plays the pianoThe song that I was playing on the video clip posted a few days ago was "Dreams", one of the first songs that I made together with Björn and Jojo in TSEC. The first version was recorded in September-October 1996, and it was released on the web sometime around March 1997. It was that song that launched the adventure that would follow as it became popular quickly after its release, so a year later when we released our first album it was pretty natural to name it after the song.

A new version of the song was made, and the follow-up releases "Dreams 2" and "Dreams 3" were also added to the album but with new titles: "Another dream" and "Midnight sun". The album was released in the beginning of 1998, and even though the technical quality of album tracks was nowhere near any professional level, we were very happy with the result. And I still am. I am more proud over "Dreams" than any of the future releases, simply because we did something that not many internet artists had done at that time. We brought our music out to the real world. In a small scale, yes, but it was still a great adventure.

Even today, I love listening to the CD. The songs are very emotional, telling stories of a time that I miss terribly much. And to my surprise, I still believe that the melodies are good! I have arranged piano versions of some of the songs on the album, and every single song I have tried to play still sounds good when it is played with only a piano. I have a silly fantasy about some day recording a piano-only version of the "Dreams" album, or maybe of the best songs from the 10-year long TSEC/Lagoona era. "Into my dream" and "Final destination" are other songs that work very well on the piano. But so far it is nothing more than an idea. A dream, like the one we once had about releasing that own CD…

The "Dreams" album (including the "Dreams" song) can be downloaded for free from the TSEC page.

A dream is something to be fulfilled, so just do it Andreas, you know you can!

These tracks are similar to the music on our school disco… The music takes me back to that time! :-)

You've been a pioneer in many several internet activities.

I'd like to know how you embed the youtube video in your post: did you use a wp-plugin or did you write your own code?

Matt: Thanks! I know I want to, but I've learned to not take anything for granted. I have serious problems with getting things done, but we'll see…

Kraig: The album was recorded ten years ago so it is pretty natural. Those were the days! :) Robert Miles was a big hero along with DJ Dado and other producers who used the piano in dance productions.

Adrian: What does that mean? (I misread it as "well on heels" first, which was even more confusing!)

Alberto: I do not embed any video in the post. The video player that you see is a reduced-size screenshot image with a link to the video on YouTube. Embedded flash players are really cool, but I prefer to link to the hosting site instead.

Andreas, doing a piano version of the songs would be interesting. You could even release them one a month on the internet. When you compare the TSEC version of dreams to your piano version I see the potential (I'm a big Glenn Gould fan).

Too bad , too bad i couldnt just play this video:{ probably my dialup wont allow me to play it even…BTW i really would have loved to see the best WP Designer on a Piano!

Update*: While i am just writing this comment it just started playing, and really feels good listening to, btw 42 seconds wasn't that enough though!

Yes, the clip is very short because of camera limitations, but next time I go to my father in Porjus (where the piano is located) I'll bring a better camera so I can record the entire song.

That was an impressive show of skill on the piano.. even if it was cutoff. I'm DLing the rest from TSEC right now.
