Jokkmokk dot biz
Yesterday morning I launched Jokkmokk.biz, the website of the company I work for - a local computer store and web production company named ITUS in Jokkmokk, northern Sweden. The website is built with WordPress and a custom-designed theme, and it is intended to be both a company business site and a simple online magazine with daily news from our local area. The language is Swedish, but we will soon launch a site section in English for the international content. As you may have guessed, you will find both free website templates and themes for WordPress on that site soon. The designs will be coded by me, but released under the name of the company. More about that in the next couple of posts…
Feel free to check out the site, and please let me know what you think of the design so far!

Great design. If I could only understand the content… ;-)
I see some cool stuff in there. Is that a "World's Strongest Man" picture? And are those pictures of your town? Very pretty.

CoolGoose: Thanks!
Matt: Yes, that's a Strongman photo showing my cousin Daniel Viklund (one of the top strongmen in Sweden) lifting the 160 kilogram stone. The entry promotes an upcoming contest that will be held in Jokkmokk in a few weeks - which we will broadcast on the site through a live blog and some kind of webcast. The aerial photo shows Porjus, my hometown, approximately 45 kilometers north of Jokkmokk where I live now. You can see my childhood house on that photo, and the former location of the Lagoona studio. You can also see my former apartment, my school, the village store and the streets where I played as a kid… ;)
The site covers various topics for the entire Jokkmokk area. The target audience for the blog is not big, probably only the few thousands of people that live around here. But it will still be a great site to run!

when are you inviting me to sweden? I've been only once to Malmoe and Lund :)

Northern Sweden looks very attractive, even the aerial photo of Porjus makes it look like a picture postcard type of town. Andreas, what are property prices like? I might want to come and buy a small house for holidays.

dandyna: If you have only seen Malmö and Lund, you haven't seen anything… You need to get atleast 1000 kilometers north of Malmö to see the more beautiful sides of the country. ;)
Carl: Yes, it is a little paradise. Small but beautiful… I don't really know what the prices are, but I know for sure that they are lower than in the southern parts of Sweden. For example, a normal family-size house was sold for $15.000 not long ago. Send me an e-mail if you want more info, and I'll send you some more photos back!

I was looking for some WP themes, clicked some links and all of a sudden I'm learning you're from Jokkmokk! What a surprise because my girlfriend lives in Vuollerim. I'm thinking of moving to Sweden too (I'm Dutch) and was even more surprised you work at a computer business. Didn't think there were these kinds of jobs in that region (I'm in IT).
Also funny to read your blog about all those places you visit (Porjus, Lulea, etc etc) I've been to them all :)
Btw Carl, yes property is reaaaallly cheap over there. Normal houses start from $10.000. A really expensive house is $50.000.

Mark: Hey, that's great! I've spent a lot of time in Vuollerim as well, and I have both family and friends there. And Jokkmokk.biz will of course cover Vuollerim (and Porjus) as well. If you have photos or any text about your view on the local area (or any other material that could be interesting for Jokkmokk.biz) please let me know!

@Mark, I must say I never expected to hear about property prices anywhere in Europe being that cheap, and so that I don't hijack Andreas' website with property investment ideas, could I just add that I ytoo would love to see more photos of Northern Sweden.
BTW Andreas, I never did let you know what I think of jokmokk.biz. I like it. A lot! It's clean, seems well organised, and unusual. I think most people would expect a site like that to have a traditional banner image showing the tourist things or a street scene, and using paving stones seems inspired.

Carl: Thanks! Yes, there is a long story behind the header image and those stones and the chessboard. Only a few people will get the point, but the image still works in some strange way. It is a bit unusual, and that works well with the site itself. In an attach of useless trivia I can tell you that those stones are located 10 meters away from my home… ;)

CoolGoose: I'm getting close to 100 e-mails per day, so it works for sure. However, the "reply" feature is a bit slow because of some overflow… ;)
Johan: Precis! Du får ett mail om några dagar, kommentera gärna design och idé! (innehållet är inte så mycket att kommentera riktigt ännu)
