Testing new theme

I have now tested WP-Andreas01 live on this site and it worked perfectly. It is definitely time to let it go now… I will upload the new beta version to this download location (edit: final version released, link changed!) later today so you can test if for yourself. If you do, please let me know how it works and report any bugs you find to me as soon as you can. The official release will go out as soon as I have had a chance to fix the bugs that testers will probably find, either tonight or tomorrow.

And after playing around with the widgets in WP-Andreas01 I also realized that I need to rework the theme I have built for this site. It would be fun to use widgets here too, and it would make updating even easier in several ways. Features that I have been building manually with customized conditional tags hardcoded into the template files can now be done really easy with widgets. I have also tested WordPress 2.1-alpha2 to get a clue about what to expect from WP in the future, and I'll write more about that in a future post…

But I need to get some sleep now. If I see a couple of e-mails with feedback on the theme when I wake up, I promise to give you all a little extra surprise later today!

Goodnight Andreas, have a good sleep. I'm testing and playing with the theme, and I have to say it works heavenly! (It just doesnt show the links/blogroll). Oh, and I LOVE the subpages on the right column. Very good job!!!!!

dandyna, Tomos: The links are commented out of the sidebar right now. It is no bug, just an inactivated feature coming from the fact that I've been playing around a bit with it. But you can remove the comment from the sidebar.php template file to get it back. And if you load the Widgets plugin you can get it working - in any of the two sidebars.

Mikael: No celebrations here. But I'm not really a fan of holidays like this one either… The celebrations usually mean that I would meet a lot of drunk people, feeling stupid for not taking a part of the (truly stupid) frogdance and having to explain to everyone that I don't like "sillen och nubben" and that I don't drink alcohol at all. Instead of joining this madness, I spent the whole day at home - and I had a great day! I guess I am THAT boring nowadays, haha… =)

I have it running right now on my site awink.uni.cc . It is quite nice — I am impressed.

Any way to include an option to have the main page be 2 columns instead of three? I really don't need the third, and feel it is a bit cluttered

Mautana: There are less than1700 blogs listed on that site so far, and 99% of them are written by hobby writers and new bloggers with a very limited number of readers. As far as I can tell only a few members on that site are professional bloggers, and no commercial or media-hyped blog is listed yet - so it is not very cool to be #1 there yet. If I could still hang on to that list when the site has 25.000 members, then it would be pretty fun. But I don't really care about popularity contests, trust me. ;)

Aaron: I see on your site the comments start to break left after the 3rd comment and more to the left on the fourth comment. I'm using IE 6.

I can't see any error with breaking comments. I don't have IE6, but both Firefox, IE7, the code itself and my mobile phone browser display the comments as intended. What exactly is happening? Could you please send me a few screenshots?

Regarding WP-Andreas01 I have split it into two separate themes. The theme that you guys have seen (the RC1 version) ended up being too far from the original andreas01 design, so I will make one theme out of what you have seen - and one theme out of the new version of the andreas01 template (v2.0) that I have finished. And then there will be WP-Andreas00 as well, which is very similar to 01 of course.

Anyone want to try the RC2 version of WP-Andreas01? Expect a lot of differences. ;)

Oh, that looked ugly. I have seen it before, but I have no idea what can be causing it. And I can't check it either, as it is most likely an IE6 bug and i don't use IE6. Please download this new version (RC2) of the theme (the WP-Andreas01 version that is somewhat different from your current theme) and let me know if the error is still there. If it is, the release will be delayed again. But you are all used to that by now, right? =P

Weird. I've just tested the site with IE6 and it looks fine. The same as in Opera 8.02, Firefox 1.5.0.4, Netscape 7.1, Mozilla 1.7.13 :)

I can't find any errors either. And out of 500 downloaded copies of the theme in the last couple of days, Richard is the only user who have reported problems like this. It looks like it is a browser bug. But I still want to find out what causes it, to be 100% sure that it is not an error in the theme!
