The download link

WP-Andreas01, my first public theme for WordPress, is finally ready for release. I have created a new section of this site where I will place all info about all my future WordPress themes, but I am too tired to fill it with the proper content tonight. I will make a better announcement and post a lot more information about the theme tomorrow, but I still want to make the theme available for download so I can get a few more user comments before I make the big announcement.
So I invite you to download the theme, try it out and let me know what you think about it. I can't guarantee that it works well, but I have tested it live on four different sites (including my own!) and it has worked really good for me. But still, please let me know about any and all bugs and errors that you find. As I just wrote I am extremely tired, so it wouldn't surprise me if something is wrong…
And of course, look for a big site update and the full-scale announcement tomorrow!

Ok, this was bad news. I'm off to bed now but I will take a close look at it tomorrow. But first of all, which version of WordPress are you using? I would guess that 2.0 is required, but I honestly don't know.
If this turns out to be a common error, I'll add the list_subpages feature through the original plugin instead.

I just tested it and worked just fine for me. I'm using WP 2.0.2.

I'm running 2.0.1, I guessed as it was because I never had the list subpages plugin installed so I installed that, reinstalled the theme and as soon as I hit install *poof* up came the exact same error as I have above and completely takes my blog offline so I have to uninstall to get it back. I have attempted 3 times and no go. :(
Anyways I'll see if I can find whats causing this and if anyone has any ideas would be nice.
Regards
PS: sleep well

I got some plugins Akismet, Bad behaviour, spam karma 2, Smart pingupdater, DLC
Those i think are it…

First, congratulation for this release, very nice and efficient.
Installed with zero problem on a clean new DB.
Tried a couple of things, the only problem so far is that if you create a new category of links it does not show up. Only links in the blogroll do.
Thanks again !

Ok I finally got this in but I had to deactivate the WordPress Database Backup Plugin to get it in. Never had to do that before.
Everything seems to be ok but I have lost all my links they're not showing so still looking as to why and how to get them back.

had the same problem as above but didn't have the database plugin activated, only had Chenpress , so deactivated that, tried again and everything is no working. Even activated the Chenpress plugin again and everythng is ok. see at http://www.prinserne.dk
my guess is that you have to deactivate ALL your plugins before instaling the theme. but just a guess….
nice theme Andreas

Doesn't work for me either.
Same error… 'unexpected T_FUNCTION' that others are experiencing.

Works well so far. I've done a French translation which I could post after some proofing (not sure where it's best to post it).
Design bug : when the page title is long, the text overflows from the box. If there's a page listed after, the texts overlap.

Hi Andreas, think I found a minor bug.
When typing in a comment the user has the oppertunity to write a webpage that links when clicking their name, but it doesn't work it just says http:///
you can see the bug at

The code Donna mentions is to change the wp_get_links to get_links_list in the sidebar.php. I still haven't been able to see this bug myself, and I can't see how the links list would affect it. My guess is that my limited PHP skills has caused some bug in functions.php where the list_subpages function is. Any hint on what may be wrong, would be very appreciated!
I will update the theme tonight before making the real announcement, and I will probably add list_subpages as a regular plugin rather than as functions.php addon. Either that, or I will remove that feature and place sub-pages inside the main menu. What would be the best solution?

Dennis: The address works great for me, and from what I could tell by adding a comment on the page example you listed, the address is visible there too.
If you would like to share the Danish translation, I would be happy to add it to the themes page! (this goes for all translations) This theme doesn't support the localization feature, but I will add all translated versions that are sent to me to the download list.

update, the bug only shows when admin writes comments, if a user writes comments nothing is wrong.

Andreas, I'll have a look later to see if I can spot anything, unless you fix it before.
Dennis, have you filled you web site address in the user section of the wp admin? If you have not, this would result in the problem you have.

No problem at all. Installed beautifully. Only had to add the Admin links in the sidebar.

I can't see any problems with the functions file. I have emailed you with a few suggestions but it worked like a dream for me!

When the theme doesn't work, what are the error messages really saying? Could someone please send me a few screenshots that show what happens?

Feature request (and/or help wanted !) :
The left column has lots of room to add stuff below the menus, and I would like to move part of the right column into the left (ie. links or categories). But all list elements take the menu style, and it makes more sense to have them in a different style (ie. similar to right column). I've tried a number of things, but I can't figure the way to 'cancel' the menu style for the rest of the column.
So the feature request would be to have below the menu some code ready for that, even if it is not used in the base template.
In the meantime, if anybody has a clue…

Donna, you don't have to reinstall WP.. just delete the Andreas01 theme directory from your server and will default back to the original theme…

Phild. There is one way of moving items from the right to the left sidebar.
If you open the header.php and at the bottom add the following (example puts the search form on the left)
just before the final .
You could also include the following
Admin
in this (new) and the admin and login/logoff details would be on the left.
Try it and see.

Try again. Put this code
Admin
before the final in header.php

Oh dear. I can't seem to get the comment to include my code. Sorry chaps.
Phild.
Here is a link to a page on my web site that gives the details as to how to include right sidebar items on the left sidebar correctly formatted.

Thank you Gordon.
The problem is that the elements of the list take the format of the menu items (in a grey box with left border, etc.). I can't get rid of these boxes and give these items the same look as in the right column. I can't figure a way to change the css to achieve that.

Ok, I have made a minor update to the functions.php file (removed the comment and changed the character encoding) and updated the theme zip. Feel free to try the theme with the new functions.php and let me know if it makes any difference.
Regarding content in the left column: that will need a structural change that makes the sidebar styles apply to the menu list only. It is not hard to do and it will not look different for people who don't want any other content, so I'll update the theme to support that later today.

Great, Ainslie! I have updated the theme zip once again, so those of you who have got this error should give it another try and write a note here about how it works out. You will need to replace the functions.php file (but replacing all all .php files is recommended), as the PHP files were created in a strange file format that some web servers appearently doesn't support. Please give it a try, and let me know if it works better now. If it does, the theme will go out in larger scale tonight.

Just uploaded the latest version to my other site. The error has gone! I think you have it sorted. Just need a few more people to verify it.
What a strange error - maybe that is what the gremlins do when you are working on themes in the early hours of the morning. I make my best bugs late at night ;-)

Aaron: That was good news, as that should mean that Ainslie has fixed the error. Prepare for full-scale launch soon!
Big thanks to Ainslie for providing me with the fix. It is not the first time we co-operate to make good themes, and it is hopefully not the last time either. =)

@Craig — I believe that this theme is a customized version of Andreas' Andreas08 theme, which is available for WP (google it).
Comment from Andreas
Time: March 25, 2006, 2:01
In fact, the andreas08 design was extracted from the design of this page as it looked a couple of months ago. Since that, I have changed a number of details in the design - but the basic layout is still mostly the same.
It may possibly make an official theme out of the andreas08 design in the future. But I will not release the theme I have built for this site, since it is heavily customized for my content with many hardcoded features.

I made Czech translation of the theme (it can be downloaded here). The theme is pretty fast. Thank you Andreas.
I want to mention the same issue as phild [11] - "when the page title is long, the text overflows from the box" - in Firefox and Opera - but it's OK in IE. What a surprise.
Comment from Andreas
Time: March 25, 2006, 23:08
Thanks calaf! The fact that page titles can't bee too long is not a bug. I knew that from the very start, since I designed the andreas01 template to work the very same way. The buttons are made for one line of text. If you need to have longer titles, you will need to remove the fixed height for the menu links in the CSS - which will make the menu work in a completely different way.
It is no optimal solution, but when I designed andreas01, I couldn't find any better way to handle the buttons. If anyone know a better way to maintain the functionality of the menu - while not having the fixed height, please let me know!

This could just what I'm looking for. I've recently upgraded from a customised 'blue robot' theme, using 1.2.
Currently i am using Blue Horizon, but it's not really what i'm looking for.
Can i customise this new template Andrea's? I doesn't need much of a tweak to suit me, but it could be the best theme so far for my needs.
Well done!

Of course you can customize the theme to fit your own needs, just as you could customize any of the templates. No need to ask about that, just go wild! But if you like the theme, I would appreciate if you would still leave some kind of credit in the footer. =)

:( I can't install it keeps giving me the error:
Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /home/wp/public_html/wp-content/themes/wp-andreas01/functions.php on line 1
I have no clue what that is and have never had any errors installing themes on WP before.
Any ideas as to why? :( was looking forward to testing this out.
