New template: Gallery

Post 197 of 262

A new template has been uploaded, the first one designed by an external designer! It is Steve from dogs.net who presents an extremely simple photoblog-styled 2-column light-on-dark template. Based on Steve’s design, I have reviewed and re-formatted the code to make sure that the template keeps up with the requirements I have for my work, and to give the code the same format as the other templates on andreasviklund.com. It is all valid XHTML 1.0 Strict and CSS2, and the template is of course not limited to showing photos. I already have ideas for alternate versions with a thumbnails and text content layouts, as well as a version with dual sidebars to allow both text links and additional thumbnails – so look out for updates on the Gallery template page!

Here is a teaser, click the image to download the template:

Would you want to publish your work on andreasviklund.com?

Having opened up the andreasviklund.com template gallery for templates by other designers, I would like to invite anyone interested in distributing their work (free website templates, WordPress themes, Joomla templates or themes/templates for any other open source content management system) to get in touch! I am looking for experienced designers who share my view on code quality, and I have created a list of conditions and requirements for publishing website templates (such as W3 standards compliance, optimized and well-written code, no scripting, semantic markup etc.) which I will post in a future entry in this blog. But I am all open for ideas and suggestions in case someone would want to create and release something different from the typical templates. And as mentioned before, I am searching for designers who can convert the free templates into themes for WordPress, Drupal and other content management systems.

Would you want to get involved in andreasviklund.com and help me provide tools and resources that can help people all over the world to build better websites? Then send me an e-mail and include links to your portfolio (or send code examples directly to inbox at andreasviklund dot com).
