The Solid Energy Crew

This page is dedicated to the music of The Solid Energy Crew (TSEC), a modscene music group that was founded in August 1996. TSEC had three members: Andreas Viklund (that's me), Björn "Virtuos" Karlsson and John Johansson, all living in the small town of Porjus in northern Sweden. The band released its first song ("Feelings") on the internet in January 1997. It was followed by a second song called "Dreams" in March the same year, and "Dreams" became the first hit track for the band.

TSEC - The Solid Energy Crew, Porjus, 1997

In the beginning, the TSEC songs were released on a large music site called The Modarchive, and after only a couple of months "Dreams" was one of the most popular songs on the site. When the official TSEC website was launched in April 1997, the popularity of "Dreams" had made a lot of people curious about the band, which resulted in a lot of visitors on the site. A month later, I bought my first own computer and started making a lot of music. I also discovered the MP3 format, and TSEC released its first MP3 song, called "Electronic Dreams", on October 27th 1997 - making TSEC one of the first artists in Sweden to use the MP3 format to distribute our music for free on the web.

In the beginning of 1999, TSEC left the modscene and started building an own MIDI hardware studio. In order to get a fresh start, TSEC was reformed into a new project with a new name: Lagoona.

TSEC MP3 releases

TSEC recorded a lot of music during 1997 and 1998, more than 80 songs in total. Most of these songs were released under the members own names, which means that you can find most of my own songs on the Andreas Viklund songs page. But we also released an own album, a limited edition CD (500 copies) with 16 tracks, called "Dreams" after the most popular song. I am proud to announce that the entire album can now be downloaded for free! The songs are also free to share, as long as the music is kept non-commercial. See the copyright information for details.

The old .XM modules

If you want to dig deeper into the history of TSEC, you can still find many of the songs in their original format (.XM modules) on the TSEC and Andreas Viklund artist pages at The Modarchive. The pages have not been updated in many years, so there are errors and outdated information on the pages. For example, "It's night forever" is not a TSEC song.

To play the XM songs, download and unzip the songs and use a media player that can handle .XM files (extended modules). PC users can use WinAmp or XM Play, while CocoModX should work for Mac OSX users.
