I have been doing a lot of minimalistic designs lately, and to my surprise it appears as if the more basic template are among the most popular. While there are a lot of free templates to find on the web, there are not that many well-coded designs in the “simple but useful” category. I like that style myself, so building that kind of templates is quite natural – even if I do some more advanced projects at times. The end result is hopefully a good balance in the template gallery.
Anyway, this week I have been working on two templates. This is the first of them, another simple template with a plain and very standardized 2-column layout. It is called Basic Reader, and the target has been to create a visual style that could be used for text-based documentation websites (which was something that was specifically requested by a site visitor a few weeks ago). It could also work for short online novels, blogs, feed readers and other kinds of sites which are focusing on text content.

great theme andreas, I’d love to use it for a project but when I load it, wp, tells me its missing files, something to the effect of function.php etc, it looks amazing though, I like it.
That happens since Basic Reader is not a WordPress theme. It is an XHTML/CSS website template which contains no CMS-specific code – so it will not work with WordPress or any other blog engine or content management system unless the proper code is added to it.
Thanks
it’s relly very impressive information on your blog
This is beautiful. Any chance you can make this as a Word Press Template?
