andreas01, dark and wide editions

Inspired by the great modified versions that Jason Cole has made from my XHTML/CSS templates (see the forum for details), I have created two alternate versions of the andreas01 template. It is a bit like remixing my own work, in order to give you a few more options to choose from if you like the basic layout of the original template but want something a little bit different. The two new styles are andreas01-dark (which has a wider layout, no background image, white text on dark backgrounds and purple link color) and andreas01-wide (which is basically just a wider version of the original but with a touch of red colors). Here is what they look like:

Both designs are complete templates available as separate downloads from the andreas01 template page, not add-ons that require any editing to work. Check them out and let me know what you think. More alternate versions are on their way, request are of course welcome. And again, there are forum threads for alternate versions of every template in the forum that is well worth checking out, don’t miss it.

Try the updated WP-Andreas01 theme

I am currently making the last touches on the updated WP-Andreas01 theme for WordPress in order to submit the theme to the WordPress.org theme directory. Changes include widening the theme for 1024px screens, adding correct image alignment classes and support for newer WordPress features such as custom menu and attachments, removal of the right-side subpages box and numerous minor changes and fixes.

There are still a few glitches to sort out for the theme to match the rules for inclusion in the official theme directory, but the theme should still work well for most users as it is now. I’m making the theme available for download here for those of you who want to try it out. I would appreciate bug reports if you encounter any problems, as well as general feedback about the theme. As with the previous version, it is a basic theme without any advanced features, quite faithful to the [andreas01 template->andreas01] which it was originally based on. Blog pages still use a 3-column layout with a widget-enabled sidebar to the right, while content pages use a 2-column layout where widgets can be placed in the left sidebar below the main menu. Give it a try if you want to:

(Note: I am still considering rebuilding the theme as a child theme to the default WordPress theme (twentyten), as it would add a lot of useful features for those who want to use the theme and make future updates easier to manage. That would, however, make the theme more difficult for many users to customize. Still undecided, comments and opinions would be appreciated.)

New template: Variant Duo

A new free website template has been published, called Variant Duo. This time it is a two-column layout which could work just as well for personal websites as for portfolio sites or product showcases. Featuring a simple button menu and space for a large header image but without any special layout options or bonus features, this one is for those of you who like simple and useful templates. New template: Variant Classic

I have just uploaded Variant Classic, a new free website template that is not really new. If you have followed this website for some time, you may recognize the look: It is the previous design of andreasviklund.com! Variant Fashion for Typo3

Variant Fashion has been ported into a Typo3 template by Typo3-Asia.com. It is the first CMS version of this template that I have seen, and it appears as if you will be able to find more Typo3 templates based on my designs on the same site in the future.

I have not tested this version since I don’t use Typo3 myself, but it appears as if it includes three different layout options which would be excellent. If you give the ported version a try, feel free to share your opinion or post a link to where it can be seen in live mode.
